Central America
December 2008 - January 2009
Central America must be one of our most adventurous trips. We flew into Guatemala City and spent two days in the city before travelling to Antigua and Panajachel visiting Lake Atitlan. We then went back to Guatemala City and took an internal flight to Flores , visiting the Tikal Ruins. We then crossed the border to Belize and spent a few days on Caye Calker. We travelled to Placencia by water taxi from where we took a jungle tour on Monkey River. The journey to Rio Dulce was a very long one. First we we took the water taxi back to the mainland. From Independence we took the bus to Punta Gorda and then another ferry to Livingtone in Guatemala. From Livingstone we took yet another boat to Rio Dulce. On Christmas eve we crossed the border into Copan Ruinas in Honduras. On Christmas Day we made a canopy tour of 15 zip line rides over the ruins. From Copan we visited Roatan Island by plane from San Pedro Sula via La Ceibe. We spent a couple of days on Roatan and flew to San Salvador and spent the new year there. We then travelled by bus to Leon in Nicaragua. The day after we did some volcano boarding on Cerro Negro and right after took a taxi to Granada. After about two or three days we left for Ometepe Island. Back on the mainland we crossed the border into Costa Rica and eventually to Monteverde, visiting the cloud forest. From Monteverde we travelled to Arenal and on to Tortuguero. Travelling to Bocas del Toro in Panama was another hard and long journey. We first travelled by boat through the jungle to Moin. From there we took a taxi to Sixaola on the Costa Rica/Panama border and crossed the bridge into Panama. We then took a bus to Changuinola and then a taxi to Almirante. Finally we managed to get the last water taxi to Bocas del Toro. From Bocas del Toro we travevelled to Boquete. from there we travelled to David and took a flight to Panama City. After a few days in Panama City we flew back home.
